What is a Transient Ischemic Attack? Symptoms?
Blood supply to part of brain briefly interrupted <24 hours
Symptoms: numbness & weakness in face, arm or leg, especially on one side of body; confusion or difficulty in talking or understanding speech; trouble seeing; difficulty walking, dizziness and/or loos of balance/coordination
What is a cerebral Infarction
embolism/thrombosis of intra or extracranial arteries
What is a cerebral hemorrhage?
bleed secondary to hypertension or aneurysm
What is a cerebral arteriovenous malformation?
abnormal, tangled collections of dilated blood vessels that result from congenitally malformed vascular structures
Symptom of MCA?
contralateral hemi, hemianesthsia, homonymous hemianopsia, (usually L MCA) aphasia, apraxia (usually R MCA) uni neglect, spatial dysfunction
Symptoms of Internal Carotid artery?
similar to MCA
Symptoms of ACA?
contralateral hemi, grasp reflex, incontinence, confusion, apathy, mutism
Symptoms of PCA?
homonymous hemianopsia, thalamic pain, hemi sensory loss and/or alexia
Vertebrobasilar symptoms?
Pseudobulbar signs - dysarthria, dysphagia, emotional instability, tetraplegia.
What is a TBI? Symptoms?
Penetration of skull (open TBI)
Rapid accel/deceleration of skull (closed TBI)
blunt external force (closed)
What type of testing can be done post TBI?
Glasgow Coma Scale, Ranchos
What is considered a severe GCS score? moderate? minor?
