Brain Flashcards
What does the parietal lobe control?
Integration of sensation
Touch, proprioception, pain and temperature sensations from opposite side of body.
☝️
What does the frontal lobe control?
Voluntary muscle activation
Emotions, judgement, higher cognitive functions (i.e. Ideation, abstraction)
Planning of movements
Broca’s area: motor aspect of speech
What is the does the temporal lobe control?
Receives/processes auditory stimuli
Language comprehension
What does the occipital lobe control?
Receives/processes visual stimuli
What does the insular lobe control?
Visceral functions
What does the limbic system control?
Instincts and emotions
Feeding, aggression, endocrine aspects of sexual function, long-term memory
What does the basil ganglia control?
Motor plans
Scale and adjust movements
What does the Thalamus control?
Relays sensory information from the body, face, retina, cochlea and taste receptors (smell is an exception) to cerebral cortex
Assist in integration of visceral and somatic functions
What does the hypothalamus control?
Controls function of ANS
Maintains HOMEOSTASIS: regulates body temp, water balance, sexual behavior and emotion
What does the brain stem control?
Coordination
Oculomotor and trochlear cranial nerve location
Vision and visual reflexes
Hearing and auditory reflexes
What does the pons control?
Important for ascending and descending tracts
Modulation pain and controlling arousal
Contains abducens, trigeminal, facial, vestibule ocular nerve location
What does the medulla oblongata control?
Coritcospinal tracts in pyramids (voluntary FM movement)
Hypoglossal, dorsal nucleus of vagus and vesibulochlear
Cardiac, respiratory, and vasomotor centersu
What does the cerebellum control?
Equilibrium
Modifying muscle tone and synergistic actions
Posture and voluntary movement control
Ensures accurate force, direction, and degree of movement
