Neuro anatomy - the brain Flashcards
What are the 5 Major regions of the brain
cerebrum cerebellum Diencephalon Pons Medulla oblongata
What is grey and white matter
the cell body of neurones make up grey matter. The axon and the dendrite makes up white matter
What is the cerebrum
the largest part of the brain. It is separated into R and L hemispheres. The left hemisphere is functionally dominant and controls language, thinking, emotionsand speech. The left side co-ordinates movement and regulates temperature The surface of the cerebrum is grey matter and deeper within is white matter.
The cerebral hemispheres are divided into lobes what are they and what are they divided by
Frontal lobe
pariatal lobe
occipital lobe
Temporal lobe
What is the Diencephalon
the center core of the brain which is made up of the Thalamus, hypothalamus and epithalamus
What us the Thalamus
it groups similar signals together to send to specific arae
What is the hypothalums
controls many bodily functions including the release of hormones from the pituitary gland
What is the epithalamus
connects the limbic to other parts of the brain.
It secretes melatonin with controls our wake-sleep cycles
What is the brain stem
consists of the midbrain, pons and medulla
Label the lateral projection of the brain

What is the cerebellum
controls the coordination of voluntary muscle movements and receives input from muscles, joints, eyes and ears. It also plays a role in learning and language processing
