C: Controls plan, programming, movement
E: Motional, behavior control, personally affected
O: Olfaction affected
Function of the Temporal Lobe?
Hearing, Language Comprehension, Aphasia (Wernicke’s)
What is Wernicke’s Area? What Lobe is affected?
Temporal Lobe affected
Patient cannot comprehend - WORD SALAD
What is Broca’s Area? What Lobe Affected?
Frontal Lobe affected

Where are the Cranial Nerves Located on Brainstem?
Cerebrum - 1 & 2
Midbrain - 3 & 4
Pons - 5,6,7, & 8
Medulla - 9,10, 11, & 12
Pupillary Reflex Breakdown?
Sensory Part: Optic Nerve
Motor Part: Oculomotor Nerve
Function of Oculomotor Nerve?
- Moves eyes Up, Down, In & out and in
- Opens eyelids
- Constricts pupils
Function of Optic Nerve?
Vision - Color, acuity, peripheral vision
Function of Trochlear Nerve?
Moves eyes Down and in (look at nose)
What is Conduction Hearing Loss?
Issue with External Canal
What is Sensorineural Hearing Loss?
Issue in Internal Canal
How to tell if its Conduction or Sensorineural Hearing Loss?
- Perform RINNE Test
- Then perform WEBER Test
Innervation and Function for Superior Oblique Muscle?
Function: Look Down & in (CN4)

- Superior rectus
- Inferior rectus
- Medial rectus
- Inferior oblique
What cranial nerves are both motor and sensory? (4)
- Trigeminal
- Facial
- Glossopharyngeal
- Valgus
What is affected if a patient has Ataxic Gait, Balance & Coordination issue?
Cerebellum
Gag Reflex
CN 9 - Sensory aspect
CN 10 - Motor aspect
Function of the Glossopharyngeal Nerve?
Gag Reflex, Posterior 1/3 Tongue Sensation & Taste, & Swallowing
Coronary reflex
CN 5 - sensation of eye
CN 7 - closing of eyelid
Function of Facial Nerve?
Muscles of face expression, Taste of Ant. 2/3 Tongue, & Dampens sound
Function of Trigeminal Nerve?
Sensation to face, muscles of mastication, Corneal Reflex, and Jaw Reflex
What would occur is the Basal Ganglia was affected?
Resting Tremors, Rigidity, & Akinesia (Parkinson’s)
