A
- standard for IQ tests
- has 11 subtests: 5 performance and 6 verbal
- the performance tests are supposed to be independent of language and can be used for people who cant speak english/understand language
- developed in the US and culturally favor people in the US

Cons of the IQ test
A
- can’t predict occupation or occupational success
- does not assess frontal lobe activity
- cultural bias
- score can be influences by educational achievement –> vocab

Men v. women, who scores better on what?
A
- men tend to score better on the performance tests
- women tend to score better on the verbal tests
- *these differences are decreasing as the education for men and women becomes more similar

Mental retardation: dx
A
- score below 70 PLUS noted deficits in adaptive behavior –> dx not made on IQ score alone
- deficits need to be present before age 21 –> developmental age is up to age 18
- dx must be made by physician
- can have stigma, but if not made the pt could be denied gov provided services they may need
