Cranial nerve mnemonics
Ooh, ooh, ooh to touch and feel very good velvet. Such heaven!
Some say marry money but my brother says big brains matter more
Where are the motor and sensory nuclei of the cranial nerves located
Nuclei of CN1 and CN2 are found in the brain proper.
CN2 terminates in the insular cortex.
CN1 terminates in the thalamus (geniculate nucleus)
Nuclei of CNs3-12 are in the brainstem.
Nuclei of CN11 is in the cervical spinal nerve
Motor nuclei are in the midline (Think M for Motor and Midline)
Sensory nuclei are lateral
Nucleus solatarius
Visceral afferents CN7, 9, 10
Nucleus ambiguus
Branchial motor CN 9 and 10
Innervation of muscles of the eye
LR6SO4AL3
3 major reflexes testing brainstem function
Pupillary reflex - midbrain (CNII, CNIII)
Blink refelx - pons (CNV1, CNVII)
Gag reflex - medulla (CNIX, CNX)
Cranial nerve exits from the skull
Cribiform plate - CNI Optic canal - CNII SOF - III, IV, VI, V1 Foramen rotundum - V2 Foramen ovale - V3 Auditory canal - CNVII, VIII Jugular foramen - CNIX, X, XI Hypoglossal foramen - CNXII Foramen magnum - CNX enters
