Neuro Flashcards
1
Q
What kind of signal does the striatum send out?
What neurotransmitter?
A
Inhibitory
GABA
2
Q
What does the STN do in the Indirect pathway?
A
Produces more glutamate to activate the Globus pallidus internus
3
Q
What is the outcome if the globus pallidus internus is activated?
A
It produces GABA to inhibit the thalamus! This inhibits voluntary movement!
4
Q
What happens between the striatum and the thalamus in the direct pathway?
A
Striatum inhibits GPI
The GPI can then not inhibit the thalamus
Voluntary movement occurs because the thalamus is active!
