Neuro Flashcards
where is the periaquaductal grey area?
in the midbrain- it is a small area of grey matter surrounding the central canal
in the carotid sheath in the neck what is the order of the vessels that lie in there?
Most lateral= internal jugular vein
most medial= common carotid with associated sympathetic nerves
and Vagus nerve X in the middle
what goes through the superior orbital fissure
CN 3 CN 4 CN 6 V1 anterior opthalmic vein
what goes through the foramen ovale
V3
accessory meningeal artery
lesser petrosal nerve
what goes through the jugular foramen
inferior petrosal sinus CN 9 CN 10 CN 11 sigmoid sinus posterior meningeal artery
what goes through the internal acoustic meatus
CN 7
CN 8
labyrinthe artery
where do the spinal nerves end
L1 L2
name the mechanoreceptors in the glabrous skin
meissner - rapid adapting
merkel- slow adapting
ruffini- slow adapting
pacinian- rapid adapting
dermatome of the umbilicus
T10
Myotomes for hip flexion, extension, adduction and abduction?
Flexion- L2, L3 I have to pee
Extension, L4, Lfive, S1 I weigh a tonne
Adduction, L2, L3, L4 im not a whore
Abduction L4, Lfive, S1 lets have some fun
myotomes for knee flexion and extension
flexion Lfive S1 to my bum
Extension L2, L3, L4 to the floor
Myotomes for ankle eversion and inversion?
eversion- Lfive S1 why dont we run?
Inversion- L4 Lfive let’s go and jive!
tell me about the DCML light touch pathway
touch fibres ascend ipsilaterally up the spinal cord before crossing over at the medulla to the medial lemniscus.
Ascends to the contralateral thalamus and then goes to the cortex
tell me about pain pathway to cortex
in the ALS system
Pain fibres immediately cross over at the level or level below of the innervation, then ascend the spinal cord contralaterally. synapse in the thalamus and then go to the cortex (post central gyrus)
define herniation of brain tissue
herniation= the displacement of brain tissue past rigid dural folds or through openings in the skull bc of raised ICP
