Network topologies Flashcards
What is a mesh network topology?
A system where all computer systems are joined together via cables.
What is a star topology?
This is a network where all nodes are connected to a central server/hub.
What are the benefits of a mesh topology?
In a mesh topography all nodes are joined together forming a LAN, this means in one of them goes down all of the others can function without an issue.
What are the disadvantages of the mesh topology?
It needs a lot of cables to link up all nodes so it can be expensive compared to other topographies. Having many connections may result in redundancies
What are the advantages of the star topology?
If a node goes down that isn’t the central hub it will still function as normal, excluding the downed node.
What are the negatives of the star topology?
If the central hub/switch goes down the whole system will not be able to function as messages will not be able to pass through the central hub.
