- atk meant to shut down machine/network, rendering it inaccessible to its intended users
- by sending req at a rate higher than what the server can handle

by using firewall to detect large num of data packets originating frm the same source

A
more sophisticated atk might use botnet to send network req frm multiple source comp, making it harder for host to detect such attempts & block them

A
- malware that can be embedded into files that the user downloads.
- when opened, virus is executed and can log keystrokes of the comp / leak other kinds of sensitive information to the attacker

A
- malware that disguises itself as a harmless program sent to users as innocent-looking files
- when opened, the malicious code can then search for sensitive information on the computer and send it to the attacker
