What is Network Security?
Network security refers to the practises designed to monitor and prevent unauthorised access, miss use, or theft of computer networks, and their resources
What are some threats to network security?
Some threats to network security are hacking, phishing, pharming and virus.
What are firewalls?
Firewalls act as a barrier between trusted internal networks and untrusted external networks. They filter in coming and outgoing traffic based on predefined security rules, helping to prevent unauthorised access and cyber attacks.
What does a VPN do?
VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) create a secure connection over the internet by encrypting data. They allow users to access network resources securely when working remotely, enhancing privacy and security.
What is an IP Address?
An Internet Protocol (IP) address is the unique identifying number (address) assigned to every device connected to the internet which helps in identification and addressing. The IP address of a device changes to according to its location.
What is a MAC address?
A Media Access Control (MAC) address is a string of characters that identifies a device on a network. It’s tied to a key connection device in your computer called the network interface card, or NIC. A MAC address is permanent.
