Q

Cache and secondary storage

A

Primary storage is the computer’s RAM memory. Secondary storage is the computer’s hard drive or other storage devices for saving files. A cache is a part of the CPU that stores frequently used computer instructions so that the computer can process it faster, rather than going back and forward to the RAM memory to read it.

Acquiring hardware and software

A

When buying hardware, some questions to ask are: Does it meet your requirements? Can it meet the minimum requirements of the software? Does it give the desired output? Is it within budget? Is it easy to use? Do you have to learn new skills? The same questions could be asked about software.

Benchmarking

A

A term used to compare software or hardware with similar software or hardware. You could compare them on various things, eg ease of use, cost, user-friendliness, support, ability to run on current hardware etc. When you have compared your chosen elements, you can then make a decision on which is best for you.
