Nervous Tissue Flashcards
Nervous Tissue
Characteristics -cells are called neurons -high nutrient demand = high vascularity
Neuron
Characteristics -carry messages from one to another using electrical charges or chemicals -lifelong (permanent Go) -require the greatest upkeep -support staff called glila cells
Glila Cells
Characteristics -support staff to neurons -in reversible Go -can respecialize (changes jobs) -can cause brain tumors
Dendrite
receives message
Perikaryon
cell body (peri=around) (kary=nucleus)
Axon Hillock
where perikaryon and axon join together
Axon
carries messages away from cell body
Bouton
release or send the message on
Synapse
space that the message travels to reach the beginning (dendrite) of the next neuron
Synaptic Vessels
carries message until it reaches the end of the bottom; vessel releases message through exocytosis
