Q

What is the purpose of the CNS?

A

Receives information from sense organs, analyzes the information, and then initiates a response which is carried to the designated body part via the peripheral nervous system

16
Q

Nervous system coordinates the body’s systems via the?

A

Autonomic nervous system and the somatic nervous system

17
Q

Autonomic nervous system

A

Sends signals to certain organs so that they function without conscious thought

18
Q

Somatic nervous system

A

Sends signals to muscles that are controlled voluntarily

19
Q

The ___ system is of particular importance to the body?

A

Circulatory

20
Q

Red blood cells?

A

Bring life-sustaining oxygen to other cells and take life-threatening Carbon dioxide away

21
Q

White blood cells

A

Help body fight infection and inflammation

22
Q

With every beat of your heart, life-giving and life-protecting blood cells are pumped throughout your body via?

A

75,000 miles of blood vessels

23
Q

The circulatory system is divided into two main parts:?

A

The systemic circulation and the pulmonary circulation

24
Q

Main organ of the circulatory system?

A

Heart

25
Q

Brings carbon dioxide-filled blood to lungs?

A

Systemic circulation

26
Q

Body’s main artery?

A

Aorta

27
Q

The human heart is divided into?

A

4 chambers

28
Q

Left side of heart performs?

A

The systemic circulation

29
Q

Systemic circulation?

A

Disperses oxygen-rich blood throughout the body

30
Q

Capillaries

A

Transfer waste-filled blood from tissues into the pulmonary circulation

31
Q

Carbon dioxide is removed from the bloodstream by the?

A

Lungs

32
Q

Two upper chambers of heart?

A

Left and right atrium

33
Q

Two lower chambers?

A

Left and right ventricles

34
Q

Steps of circulatory system?

A
  1. Oxygen-poor blood flows from body into the right atrium
  2. Blood flows through right atrium into the right ventricle
  3. Right ventricle pumps the blood through pulmonary artery.
  4. Pulmonary artery Carrie blood to lungs, where carbon dioxide is removed
  5. Oxygen is added to blood and returned to heart
  6. Newly oxygen-rich blood returns to heart and enters left atrium from pulmonary system
  7. Blood flows through left atrium and into the left ventricle
  8. The left ventricle pumps the oxygen-rich blood through aorta, then it is dispersed throughout the body through network of blood vessels called arterioles.
  9. Oxygen and nutrients are are passed into tissues through tiny blood vessels connected to the arterioles called capillaries.
  10. Blood is pumped the tissues and into pulmonary circulation, carrying carbon dioxide and other waste materials
  11. Capillaries connected to another network of blood vessels, venules, pass waste-filled blood into veins
  12. Body’s veins converge into 2 main veins which carry blood back to heart
35
Q

_____ system pumps blood to the ____ and the ____ system pumps blood to the ____ systems

A

Pulmonary, lungs, systemic, body

36
Q

It takes heart how long to pump a given portion of blood through entire circulatory system?

A

30 seconds
