nervous sytem 🧠 Flashcards
ORGANS OF THE NERVOUS SYSTEM
- brain
- sensory organs
- nerves/nurons
- spinal cord
STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION OF THE COMPONENTS: CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
Cerebrum (brain):
- function: receives and processes sensory information, initiates response, stores memories, generates thoughts and emotion.
Cerebellum:
- function: maintain balance voluntary movement speech.
Spinal cord:
- function: conducts signals to and from the brain, control reflex activities.
STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION OF THE COMPONENTS: PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
Sensory nerves:
carries sensory information towards the CNS. activated by sensory input from the environment.
Motor nerves:
transmit impulses from the brain and spinal cord to the muscle (skeletal and smooth) play a role in both voluntary and involuntary. also connects to glands.
