Nervous System - Test Flashcards
What is the difference between the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system?
The CNS consists the brain and spinal cord. The PNS is composed of peripheral nerves that connect the CNS to other parts of the body
What are the functions of the nervous system?
The control center for all body activities
Responds and adapts to changes inside and outside of the body
Label/Diagram a neuron
Can be found on page 213 and/or 216
Label the frontal, parietal, occipital, and temporal lobe
In the book (pg. 236)
Label and give functions of the brain stem, cerebrum, and cerebellum
Cerebellum-bottom of brain; coordinate voluntary muscle movements
Cerebrum-fat part of brain; provides higher brain functions such as memory and reasoning
Brainstem-connects brain to spinal cord; connect to various parts of the nervous system and regulate visceral activities
What is the difference between somatic and autonomic nervous system?
Somatic-consist of cranial and spinal nerve fibers that connect the CNS to the skin; controls skeletal muscle
Autonomic-includes fibers that connect the CNS to the heart, stomach, intestines, and glands; controls heart and blood vessels and smooth muscle
Describe action potential
Stimulus➡️Neurotransmitter➡️Na+/K+ Pump activates➡️Depolarization (charge changes from negative to positive)➡️No stimulus causes re polarization (charge goes back to negative)
You will have to put this in sentence form for the test
