Nervous System- functions, divisions Flashcards
1
Q
2 Functions of Nervous System
A
- ) Orientation of the body to INTERNAL (visceral) and EXTERNAL (somatic) environments; sensing
- ) Coordination and control of body activities; motor
* Sensing the outside world (orientation) then decide what to do about it (motor)
2
Q
Sensory
A
monitors changes (stimuli) inside and outside the body (energy forms)
3
Q
Integrative
A
interprets the changes; (“integration”)
4
Q
Motor
A
controls responses by activating muscles and glands
5
Q
2 Anatomic Divisions
A
- ) Central Nervous System (C.N.S.)
2. ) Peripheral Nervous System (P.N.S.)
6
Q
Central Nervous System- location and what it is made up of:
A
- in dorsal body cavity: cranial vault and vertebral canal
- made up of: Brain (computer) and Spinal Cord (cord to computer) and 90% of neurons are in C.N.S.
- Brain- integrates and coordinates sensory data and motor commands; learning, memory, intelligence, reasoning, personality
7
Q
Peripheral Nervous System- location and what it is made up of:
A
- nervous tissue outside the C.N.S.
- conveys info. to and from the C.N.S.
- made up of: receptors, some neurons, nerves, ganglia, plexus
