cyclizine

A
  • drug class: h1 receptor antagonist - anti emetic
  • common indications: motion sickness, morning sickness
  • mechanism of action: blocks h1 receptor so histamine can’t bind in the vestibular cochlea in the ear so no signals reach CTZ so no vomiting sensation
  • common side effects: abdo pain, gi effects etc
  • uncommon side effects:
  • drug-drug interactions: cns depressant effects with many drugs
  • contra-indications: children and little old ladies

metoclopramide

A
  • drug class: d2 antagonist - anti emetic
  • common indications: GORD, ileus
  • mechanism of action: works centrally in ctz and inhibits d2 therefore no vomiting. also works peripherally and increases ach at muscarinic receptors - pro kinetic
  • common side effects:galacttorrhoea, dystonia, parkinsonism
  • uncommon side effects:
