omeprazole

A
  • drug class: PPI
  • common indications: GORD, PUD
  • mechanism of action: inhibit the proton pumps in the parietal cells in the stomach and so decrease acid production
  • common side effects: gi effects, headaches, dizziness, drowsiness
  • uncommon side effects:
  • drug-drug interactions: cyp inhibitor - dec clopidogrel action, inc warfarin and heparin action
  • contra-indications: osteoporosis (inc fracture risk)
