Nervous system Flashcards
Cerebellum
Is in charge of coordination and balance
Medulla Oblongata
Is the control center for involuntary activities such as breathing
Hypothalamus
Regulates temperature, hunger and thirst
Amygdala
The portion of our brain that controls impulsive emotions and anger
Cerebrum
Split into 2 hemsperes that connect to each other in the middle via the corpus callosum
Each half is divided into four lobes
Four Lobes of the Brain
Frontal, Parietal, Occipital and Temporal Lobe
Frontal Lobe
Main functions are speech, motor cortex
Parietal Lobe
Main functions are speech, taste, reading, somatosensory
Occipital Lobe
Main function is vision
Temporal Lobe
Main functions are hearing and smell
Parasympathetic Nervous system
Branch of the nervous system that shuts the body down to conserve energy
Slower heart rate, decreased blood pressure, bronchial muscle constriction, and urniary bladder constrictino
Sympathetic Nervous system
In reversed role to parasympathetic nervous system
Autonomic Nervous system
Controls the involuntary activities of the body- smooth muscle contraction, cardiac muscle contractions, glands
Motor Division of the PNS
Carries information away from the central nervous system
Sensory Division fo the PNS
Carries information to the central nervous system
