nervous system Flashcards
skin sense organ
sense = touch stimulus = pressure, pain, hot/cold temp
tongue sense organ
sense = taste stimulus = chemicals in food and drink
nose sense organ
sense = smell stimulus = chemicals in the air
eyes sense organ
sense = sight stimulus = light
ears sense organ
sense = hearing / balance stimulus = sound / movement
neurone type ?
sensory, motor, relay
central nervous system consists of
brain and spinal cord only
when receptors in a sense organ to detect a stimulus what happens ?
the send electrical impulses along sensory neurones to the CNS. CNS then sends electrical impulses to an effector along a motor neurone.
Coordinated responses need ?
stimulus, receptor and an effector
why can the nervous system bring very rapid responses?
because neurones transmit information using high speed electrical impulses
connection between two neurones ?
synapse
neurotransmitters
chemicals that are released and diffuse across the synapse to transfer a nerve signal and give a new electrical signal in next neurone
