Nervous system 1 Flashcards
What targets does a neuron have?
Other neurons, muscles, glands and blood vessels.
What is the difference between dendrites and axons?
Dendrites: recieve signals
Axons: sending action potential
What is a Glial cell as what do they do?
These cells support, nourish and protect the neurons.
What is the diffrence between CNS and PNS?
CNS is neural tissue within the brain and spinal chord. It is the control center of the body.
PNS includes all the nerves that extend from CNS and to the rest of the body.
What is the autonomous nervous system?
It´s part of the PNS and regulates the involuntary processes such as heart rate and reflexes.
The ANS can be divided into two parts. Which?
Sympathetic: fight or flight response
Parasympathetic: rest and digest response
Action potential, depolarization and repolarization
Depolarization: stimulus causes treshold and Na+ channels open.
Repolarization: Na+ channels close and voltage-gated K+ channels open
Undershoot: Excess K+ diffuses out before channels closes.
How does a reflex work?
Receptor at the end of a sensory neuron, sending the impulse to the integration center (CNS). A motor neuron carries the impulse from the CNS to the effector neuron which carries out the reflex.
