Q

How does the parathyroid contribute to calcium regulation?

A

Low levels of calcium: release of PTH which stimulates osteoclasts (cells responsible for breaking down the bone) which releases calcium into the bloodstream.
High levels of calcium: release of calcitonon (inhibits the activity of osteoclasts).
