Nervous Syste, Flashcards
Motor neurones
Carry impulses from CNS to effectors
Sensory neurones
Carry impulses from receptors to CNS
What is homeostasis?
The regulation of the internal conditions of a cell or organism to maintain optimal conditions for function in response to changes in the internal or external environment
Key areas to control in the body
Body temp, water content in the body, blood glucose concentration
Stimulus
A change in the environment
Receptors
Detect the stimulus
Coordinator
Brain, spinal chord, pancreas
Effectors
Glands or muscle that bring about a response
Response
Action taken to return conditions to normal
Synapses
Small gaps between neurones
Neurotransmitters
The chemical that neurones get turned into to diffuse across the gap between neurones
Reflex
A rapid and automatic response to a stimulus (not started by impulses from the brain)
