nervous and cardiac tissue Flashcards
What does nervous tissue do?
regulates and controls all body functions by sensing stimuli and sending electrical inmpulses
What is nervous tissue made of?
neurons and glial cells
What do neurons do and what does each one contain?
sense stimuli and send message to brain; each one has a cell body (life support), dendrites (collect signals from other cells), and axons (transmission ion cable)
What do glial cells do?
support, protect, and maintain the function of neurons; forms myelin
What does the cardiac muscle do?
forms wall of heart and contracts
What are the physical characteristics of cardiac tissue?
has striations and are uninucleate; branching structure
How is the muscle held together?
by interlaced disks
How are cell signals sent from one cell to another in cardiac muscle?
muscles contain pores so when they contract the electrical signals and move around
