muscle tissue, glands, and layers of epithelial tissue Flashcards
what are the 3 types of muscle tissue?
smooth, skeletal, and cardiac
what does muscle tissue help us do?
contract and move (well vascularized)
what does skeletal muscle do?
attaches to all bones which supports us and helps with posture; pull on bones and skin as they contract so we can move
are skeletal muscles striated?
yes
what does smooth muscle tissue do?
lines the walls of most blood vessels and hollow organs
what are the characteristics of smooth muscle tissue?
lacks striations, involuntary, uninucleate
what are simple, stratified, and pseudostratified layers?
simple: one layer
stratified: multiple layers
pseudo: one layer with diff shaped/sized cells; nuclei can be in diff regions
who are tissues named?
first name: layer
last name: shape of its cells
what are glands made of and what do they form?
made of epithelial tissue; form endocrine/exocrine glands
what to endocrine and exocrine glands do?
endocrine: distributes inside body
exocrine: distributes outside body or cavity
