fibers and immature/mature cells Flashcards
what do fibers do?
provide support and structure to shapeless ground structure
what are the characteristics of collagen fibers?
strongest/most abundant; strands of protein, makes skin look young
what are the characteristics of elastic fibers and where are they found?
form branching framework throughout matrix; elastin allows for stretching, found in skin, lungs, blood vessel walls
what are reticular fibers?
short, finer collagen fibers, in sponges; joint connection
what are immature cells and what do they secrete?
BLASTS; cells that are still dividing/forming; secretes ground substance and fibers to form matrix
what is a mature cell?
fully formed cell that maintain cells in the matrix; can revert back to blasts for repairs
