Q

Nerves of lumbosacral plexus

A

Huge debate about what is and is not part of the lumbrosacral plexus

Some L1 to S3, some L3 to S3, some L4 to S2

In our class, think L4 to S2 because this area focuses on the muscles (not the nerves contributing to the skin)

Q

Plexus

A

Means braid. so if interconnecting and a part of the braid then it should be included when talking about the plexus

Q

Femoral nerve deficiency

A

Inability to extend the stifle results in the inability to bear weight on limb. There may also be a loss of sensation on the medial side of the limb (saphenous nerve)

Q

Obturator nerve paralysis

A

Effects GAPE muscles- GAP adductors so legs will abduct and can result in downed cow

Q

Tibial nerve damage

A

Affects the extensors of the tarsus and flexors of the digits. The tarsus drops and the animal cannot actively flex the digits

Q

Common fibular or low radial nerve damage

A

Effects digital extensors similar to low radial nerve paralysis in the front limb… results in knuckling over

Q

Saphenous artery highway

A

Secondary arterial highway

Good pulse point

17
Q

Satellite venous highway from hindpaw

A

Dorsal pedal vein –> cranial tibial vein –> popliteal vein –> femoral vein –> external iliac vein –> common iliac vein –> caudal vena cava

18
Q

Venous and arterial blood collection

A

Dog: lateral saphenous vein, dorsal pedal artery
Cat: medial saphenous vein, femoral artery,

19
Q

Lymph nodes near pelvic appendage

A
  • Popliteal
  • Superficial inguinal
20
Q

Femoral triangle

A
  • sartorius
  • pectineus
  • adductor
  • iliopsoas
  • rectus femoris
  • vastus medialis
21
Q

What passes through the femoral triangle?

A
  • femoral artery and vein
  • saphenous nerve
  • lymphatics
22
Q

Femoral artery

A

the most common pulse point in dogs
