Nerves to muscles Flashcards
Olfactory nerve
only special sensory (afferent)
Optic nerve
only special sensory (afferent)
Oculomotor nerve
- general somatic efferent- 4/6 of extraocular muscles (levator palpebrae superioris, superior rectus, inferior rectus, inferior oblique)
- general visceral efferent- parasympathetic innervation of constrictor palpibrae and ciliary muscles.
Trochlear nerve
GSE: superior oblique muscle of eye
Trigeminal
Sensory: opthalmic, maxillary, mandibular
GSE: mastication: masseter, temporal, medial/lateral pterygoid
Other: veli palatini, mylohyoid, ant. belly of digastric, tensor tympani
Abducens
GSE: innervates lateral rectus
Facial
SVE: muscles of facial expression, post. belly of digastric, stylohyoid and stapedius
GVE: para innerv to lacrimal, submandibular and sublingual glands
Special Afferent: taste from anterior 2/3 of tongue
General Sensory: skin sensation around concha and a little bit behind ear
Vestibulocochlear
Afferent Sensory: hair cells of ear, cochlear for hearing, trochlear for balance
Glossopharyngeal
SVE: stylopharyngeus
GVE: parasymp innerv to smooth muscles and glands of pharynx and larynx
GVA: sensory from carotid sinus and body
GSA: skin of ext. ear, tympanic membrane, upper pharynx and posterior 1/3 of tongue
Special Sensory: posterior 1/3 of tongue
Vagus
SVE: voluntary muscles of pharynx, most of larynx and 1 extrinsic tongue muscle
GVE: parasymp innerv. from smooth muscle of glands of pharynx and larynx
GVA: visceral sensory from larynx, esophagus and trachea
GSA: sensory from back of eart, ext. auditory meatus and pharynx
Accessory
