Nerves Flashcards
What are cutaneous nerves?
Nerves that innervate the skin
What is the brachial plexus?
a major network of nerves supplying the upper limb
What is the origin of the suprascapular nerve?
superior trunk, receiving fibres from C5, C6 and often C4
What structures are innervated by suprascapular?
supraspinatus and infraspinatus muscles, glenohumeral joint
What are the roots of the brachial plexus?
spinal nerves C5, C6, C7, C8, T1
What structure is innervated by the long thoracic nerve?
serratus anterior
What structures are innervated by the dorsal scapular nerve?
rhomboids, occasionally supplies levator scapulae
What are the trunks of the brachial plexus?
superior (a combination of C5 and C6 roots) , middle (continuation of C7), inferior (a combination of C8 and T1)
What structure is innervated by the thoracodorsal nerve?
latissimus dorsi
What structures are innervated by the axillary nerve?
glenohumeral joint, teres minor, deltoid muscles, skin of superolateral arm
How is injury to the musculocutaneous nerve usually inflicted?
by a knife
What does injury to the musculocutaneous nerve usually result in?
paralysis of the coracobrachialis, biceps, and brachialis
What muscles does the musculocutaneous nerve innervate?
What muscles does the median nerve innervate?
What is the origin of the musculocutaneous nerve?
terminal brach of lateral cord, receiving fibers from C5 - C7
What is the origin of the ulnar nerve?
larger terminal branch of medial cord, receiving fibers from C8 and T1, often C7
What structures are innervated by the radial nerve?
all muscles of posterior compartments of arm and forearm
What is the origin of the radial nerve?
larger terminal branch of posterior cord receiving fibers from C5 - T1
What structures are
What is the origin of the subclavian nerve?
What structures does lateral pectoral innervate?
What is the origin of the lateral pectoral nerve?
What structure does the upper subscapular nerve innervate?
What structure does the lower subscapular nerve innervate?
