Nerve supply of TAP Flashcards
Thoracic wall innervation
Intercostal nerves from T1-T11 from anterior rami of the thoracic spinal nerves
Parietal pleura innervation (x 3)
- Costal = intercostal nerve
- Mediastinal = phrenic nerve
- Diaphragmatic = medially by phrenic, peripheral by lower 6 intercostal
Visceral pleura innervation
Sympathetic NS from pulmonary plexus = pulmonary branches of the vagus and sympathetic chain
Lungs innervation
Pulmonary plexus: sympathetic from sympathetic trunk and parasympathetic from the vagus nerve
Diaphragm innervation
Phrenic nerve (C3-C5), peripherally by intercostal nerves (T5-T11) and subcostal nerve (T12)
Pericardium innervation
Phrenic nerve to fibrous and serous pericardium, visceral is vagus and sympathetic trunk
The heart innervation
Autonomic: sympathetic trunk and parasympathetic (vagus) collection called cardiac plexus (inferior aortic arch), sensory cardiac nerves, SA node and AV node
Abdominal muscles innervation
Thoracoabdominal and subcostal nerves (T6-T12), ilioinguinal nerve (L1)
Stomach innervation
Muscle movements = celiac plexus and splanchnic nerves, gastric secretions = vagus (right posterior, left anterior)
Pancreas innervation
Parasympathetic exocrine secretion (vagus via posterior vagal trunk into coeliac plexus), sympathetic (T5-T10 to coeliac plexus)
Spleen innervation
Coeliac plexus
Liver innervation
Parenchyma innervated by hepatic plexus, sympathetic from celiac trunk and parasympathetic from vagus,
Glisson’s capsule innervation
Lower intercostal nerves
Gallbladder innervation
Coeliac plexus
Kidneys innervation
Renal sympathetic plexus, renal plexus afferent fibres enter spinal cord at 10th 11th and 12th thoracic nerves (regulate blood flow)
