16
Q

What happens with median nerve issues?

A

Wasting of thumb side muscles (thenar atrophy)

17
Q

What are the nerves found in the lumbar plexus?

A

Iliohypogastric nerve
Ilio-inguinal nerve
Lateral femoral cutaneous nerve
Genitofemoral nerve
Femoral nerve
Obturator nerve

18
Q

What are the nerves found in the sacral plexus?

A

Pudendal nerve
Posterior femoral cutaneous nerve
Inferior gluteal nerve
Superior gluteal nerve
Sciatic nerve

19
Q

Where is the sciatic nerve?

A

Sacral plexus

20
Q

What is the importance of the sciatic nerve?

A

Largest nerve in the body, branches into tibial and fibular nerve (motor and sensory for leg, ankle and foot)

21
Q

What causes sciatica?

A

When the piriformis compresses the sciatic nerve

22
Q

What are dermatomes?

A

Specific regions of skin that are supplied by certain spinal sensory nerves. There can be significant overlap between adjacent dermatomes.

23
Q

What is a reflex?

A

An immediate involuntary motor response

24
Q

What is a reflex arc?

A

The neural wiring of a single reflex. begins at a sensory receptor and ends at a peripheral effector

25
Q

Stretch Reflex

A

Patellar reflex- does not involve excitatory neurons, only sensory and motor neurons. Signal is not directly transmitted to the brain.

26
Q

What is a type of reflex that would involve excitatory interneurons that would send the message to the CNS?

A

Pulling your hand away from something sharp
