Nerve Pathways Flashcards
Which nerve originates at ventral Rami (L2-L4)
the femoral nerve
Which nerve passes deep to Biceps Fem to arrive at posterior aspect of Fibula head
The common peroneal nerve
What nerve does the tibial nerve originate from?
the sciatic nerve
Which nerve supplies the following 4 muscles
Pronator Teres (pronates forearm)
Flexor Carpi Radialias (flex & radial deviation wrist)
Palmaris Longus (flex wrist)
Flexor Digitorium Superficialis (flex middle phalanges)
The Median Nerve
Which nerve is highlighted here?
The superficial common peroneal nerve
Which neve descends under Biceps, lies on intermuscular septum?
The Median nerve
Which nerve enters forearm between 2 heads of Pronator Teres
The median nerve
Which nerve originates from just the medial cord of Brachial Plexus (C8, T1)
The Ulnar nerve
At which joint structure does the median nerve end (before muscles)
Becomes superficial at wrist to enter hand under flexor retinaculum anterior to long flexor tendons
Where does the ulnar nerve originate?
Medial cord of Brachial Plexus (C8, T1)
What does the superficial common peroneal nerve supply?
- Peroneus Longus (everts foot)
- Peroneus Brevis (everts foot)
describe the path of the deep common peroneal nerve
- Passes into anterior compartment of leg deep to Extensor Digitorium Longus
- Descends on anterior surface of Interosseous Membrane
- Passes deep to Extensor Hallucis Longus and Superior Extensor Retinaculae
- Enters dorsum of foot between tendons of Extensor Hallucis Longus and Extensor Digitorium Longus
- Divides into Medial and Lateral Branches
What are the 4 muscles supplies by the sciatic nerve?
- Semitendinosus
- Semimembranosus
- Biceps Femoris
- Adductor Magnus (ischial head)
Where does the radial nerve originate?
•Posterior cord of Brachial Plexus (C5-C8)
Which nerve originates from the posterior cord of Brachial Plexus (C5-C8)
The radial nerve
Which malleolus does the tibial nerve pass behind?
Medial malleolus
Which nerve enters anterior compartment of forearm between 2 heads of Flexor Carpi Ulnaris
The ulnar nerve
where does the median nerve originate?
Lateral (C5-C7) & Medial (C8, T1) cords of Brachial Plexus
What does the sciatic nerve divide into?
Common Peroneal and Tibial Nerve branches
True or False?
The femoral nerve enters femoral triangle lying medially to femoral artery
FALSE
•Enters femoral triangle lying laterally to femoral artery
What 5 muscles does the femoral nerve supply?
- Sartorius (anterior)
- Rectus Femoris
- Vastus Lateralis
- Vastus Medialis
- Vastus Intermedius
What does the sciatic nerve supply? (articular)
Hip
What does the deep branch of the common peroneal nerve supply? (articular)
- Inferior Tibiofibular joint
- Ankle
Wich nerve is highlighted here?
the common peroneal nerve
Describe the path of the radial nerve
- Lies behind axillary artery. Passes in front of Subscapularis, Lat Dors and Teres Major tendons in Axilla, entering posterior compartment of arm
- Runs in Spiral (Radial) Groove between lateral & medial heads of Triceps
- Passes into anterior compartment between Brachialis and Brachioradialis in front of lateral epicondyle
- Divides into superficial & deep branch (posterior interosseus nerve)
Describe the path of the superficial common peroneal nerve
- Descends vertically between Peronei and Extensor Digitorum Longus
- Distal 1/3 of leg divides into medial and lateral branches
- These pass over anterolateral aspect of ankle
What does the common peroneal nerve supply?
•Articular branches
- Knee
- Superior Tibiofibula joint
