Nerve entrapment Flashcards

1
Q

Ulnar nerve intrapment

A

prox to distal:

arcade of struthers- may cause ulnar or median nerve symptoms

above he elbow- medial intermuscular septum or arcade of sruthers

medial condyle- enters the cubital tunnel between the two heads of flx carpi ulnaris

guyon’s canal-wrist

Q

Median nerve entrapment

A

lig of struthers pronator teres syndrome-compress of median nerve as it passes through the pronator teres muscle

bicipital aponeurosis

fascia (arch) of the flexor digitorum superficialis

carpal tunnel (writ)

Q

Pronator teres sydrome

A

pain inc by resisted pronation

pain with palpation in pronn teres area

weakness in muscles supplied by the median nerve

dysesthesia in hand- 2nd and third digits

Q

Anterior interosseus syndrome

A

weakness only in muscle supplied by AIN= FPL, PQ, FDP

OK sign-unable (weakness of flexor pollicis longus)

Q

Radial nerve entrapment

A

deep branch of radial nerve is compressed in the forearm

pain and occasionaly weakness in the most distally supplied muscle of the radial nerve

no sensory loss!

S/S- tenderness over the lateral epicondyle or radial head

Q

Superficial radial nerve

A

sens loss in the distribution of the superficial radial nerve w/o evident problems with the radial nerve

compression of sup rad nerve emerges beneath the brachioradialis muscle and enters fascia

sensory only!

Q

Saturday night palsy

A

compression injury in the portion of the radial nerve between the radio spiral groove and lateral intermuscular septum

severe compression of the radial nerve in the region of the post aspect of the humerus

s/s- weakness in triceps and loss of function of the wrist, finger, and thumb extensors

sens loss- depends on level of injury. above SRN=sens loss in rad nerve distribution, below SRN= loss of wrist ext but no loss of sensation
