Nerve distribution Flashcards
left common peroneal nerve runs near
fibular head region
risk factors for peroneal nerve neuropathy
prolonged immobilization (surgery) leg crossing squatting leg casting weight loss (gastric bypass surgery)
see foot drop and paresthesias and sensory loss involving the dorsum of foot and lateral shin
This is common peroneal neuropathy symptoms
how do people compensate with peroneal nerve injury?
trip over affected foot by compensating and flexing hip wile walking and leading to steppage gait
mid thigh injury
femoral nerve injury
sciatic notch injury can result in
sciatica which causes pain along the sciatic nerve distribution and causes sensory loss to the peroneal and sural nerves
posterior tibial nerve injury results in
tarsal tunnel with sensory with burning of pain of foot and heel and paresthesias and sensory loss in the sole with rare foot weakness
lumbar vertebral foraminal nerve root injury results in
lumbar radiculopathy
what does L5 radiculopathy result in
ankle inversion, toe flexion, and sensory loss and more localized to the big toe region and radicular pattern of pain.
dermatomes
Trochanteric bursitis is located
localized tenderness over hte midpoint of the greater trochanter during flexion. Hip ROM is normal . Some people have mild gait distrubance due to pain but diagnosis is suspected clinically
HIp XR show non specific calification at the bursa.
Tx is local heat, conservative measures of weight bearing and reptitious bending and direct pressure on bursa and NSAIDs.
