Nerve And Blood Supply Oral Cavity Flashcards
Where does oral mucosa receive nociception from
Maxillary and mandibular divisions of trigeminal nerve
Innervation of salivary glands
Secretomotor parasympathetic fibres from CN7 for SM and SL, from CN9 for parotid
Innervation of teeth and gingivae
Maxillary:
Teeth 1-3: anterior superior alveolar nerve
Teeth 4-6: middle SAN
Teeth 6-8: posterior SAN
Palatal gingiva 1-3: nasopalatine nerve from incisive fossa
Palatal gingiva 3-8: greater palatine nerve from greater palatine foramen
Buccal gingiva 1-3: infraorbital nerve
Buccal gingiva 3-8: buccal nerve
Mandibular:
Teeth 1-3: incisive nerve
Teeth 3-8: infra alveolar nerve
Lingual gingiva: lingual nerve
Buccal gingiva 1-4: mental nerve
Buccal gingiva 4-8: buccal nerve
Nociceptive cell bodies location
Ipsilateral trigeminal ganglion projecting to spinal and main sensory nuclei of trigeminal nerve in brain stem
Describe venous drainage of face
Veins drain into pterygoid plexus drain into retromandibular vein which splits into anterior and posterior branches to drain into IJV and EJV. Facial vein joins anterior retromandibular vein to drain into IJV
Ophthalmic veins and supraorbital veins drain into cavernous sinus, which communicates with pterygoid plexus. Go to retromandibular or from cavernous go to sigmoid, petrosal etc sinuses to drain into IJV
Lymphatic drainage of the oral cavity
Sequential flow: submental lymph to submandibular lymph nodes to upper jugular chain/vein
Tongue go to lower jugular chain.
Motor supply to orofacial musculature (cranial nerves)
