Hyperkalaemia may occur in an AKI

How do you treat hyperkalaemia?

A

1) IV sodium gluconate - Stabilise the cardiac membrane
2) Insulin and dextrose infusion // salbutamol nebs - ST shift of potassium into the intracellular fluid
3) Calcium resonium // loop diuretics // dialysis - removal of potassium from the body
