Heavy proteinaemia

Hematuria, blood in urine
What triad of symptoms is seen in nephrotic conditions?
Proteinaemia, hypoalbuminaemia, oedema
What triad of symptoms and signs are associated with nephritic conditions?
Hypertension, haematuria, reduction in GFR
What is the biggest cause of nephrotic syndrome in children?
Minimal change disease
What are some causes of nephritic syndrome?
Rapidly progressive GN, post streptococcal GN, goodpasture’s and berger’s disease
How would you manage a patient with nephrotic syndrome?
Diuretics, salt and fluid restriction for oedema
Ace inhibitor for proteinuria
Monitor cholesterol
Try and treat underlying condition
How would you manage a patient with nephritic syndrome?
Reduce blood pressure, reduce any oedema, treat underlying cause and manage cardiovascular risk
