Neoplasm CPC Flashcards
ASCUS
atypical squamous cells of undefined significance
- larger nucleus
- less cytoplasm
- hyperchromatic
progressive cervical disease
starts as benign noninvasive or squamous intraepithelial lesion
most low grade lesions regress, but some remain unchanged
10-15% progress to moderate or severe dysplasia
high grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) may develop into invasive cancer after years or decades
difference between conventional and thin prep pap smears
conventional- most cells not cpatured, non representative cells, clumping and overlapping, obscuring materials
thin prep- almost all sample is collected, randomized cels, even distribution, minimizes obscuring material
proteins e6 and e7
interact and inactivate p53 a nd Rb respectively, which are both tumor suppressors
treatments for cervical cancer
colposcopic biopsy- diagnosis
loop electrocautery excision- most common
laser
cryosurgery- freezes off
surgery- hysterectomy, vulvectomy
