What was the pre-ceramic neolithic age? What defined it?
Final period of the Stone Age, when ground or polished stone weapons and implements/tools prevailed
What revolution occurred during this time period? What was special about it?
Agricultural revolution: was the wide-scale transition of many human cultures during the Neolithic period from a lifestyle of hunting and gathering to one of agriculture and settlement, making an increasingly large population possible.[1] These settled communities permitted humans to observe and experiment with plants, learning how they grew and developed.[2] This new knowledge led to the domestication of plants
Wha kinds of animals were domesticated? Why?
Animals domesticated: dogs, wolves, sheep, goats, cattle - for food and wool/clothing production
What was the basic unit of society? What did it consist of?
Basic unit of society was the clan or extended family - consisted of parents, children, grandparents, and close friends
How large were the communities?
50-300 people
What was the housing like?
square houses in permanent settlements, plaster (tiach) floors, stone foundations, upper part made of bricks in the shape of a loaf of bread (KIKAR LECHEM)
How were people buried?
burial in a cramped position, the skull is removed and buried alone, a cloth is wrapped around the body, no burial offerings
How did people worship during this time?
ancestral worship & symbolic group ceremonies
