Nematodes Flashcards
Nematodes compete for ____
Bacteria with Protozoa
Soil will tend to have both high conc. Of nematodes or Protozoa. T/F
False, will ahve high numbers of either but not both
What is something nematodes and bacteria ahve in common
They both consume bacteria and release (NH4)
Nematodes are nonsegmented worms. They feed on first trophic level, second trophic level and third trophic level. Give examples of each trophic level
First trophic level: plant and algea
Second trophic: bacteria and fungi
Third: nematodes
nematodes in be divided into four groups based on their diet. What are the four groups?
1) Bacterial feeders: eat bacteria
2) Fungal feeders: eat fungi.
3) predatory nematodes: eat nematodes and Protozoa. They can also attach themselves to cuticle of larger nematodes, scraping away prey until internal body parts can be extracted.
4) Omnivores: variety of organisms, different diets at various life stages.
