- gram stain: PMN intracellular gram negative diplococci

drug of choice for neisseria gonorrhoeae ?
ceftriaxone + azithromycin, neonatal prophylaxis with 1% silver nitrate
- common cause of CA bacterial meningitis
- transmitted by exchange of respiratory and throat secretions
neisseria meningitidis
- 3 to 7 days post exposure, starts with severe headache
- rapid development: sudden high fever, nuchal rigidity, altered mental status
meningococcal meningitis
- 20% of meningitis cases develop septicemia
- symptoms: fatigue, vomiting, chills, severe myalgia, tachypnea
- petechial lesions, hemorrhagic bullae, gangrene
- DIC
meningococcemia
drug of choice for neisseria meningitis?
- ceftriaxone, cefotaxime
- rifampin prophylaxis
