What is negligence
the omission to do something which a reasonable practitioner would do or not do
How does a dentist fail to meet the standard
there is a usual and normal practice
the dentist did not adopt that practice

- that breach caused or materially contributed to damage (causation)
- this damage was reasonably foreseeable and had negative consequences and effects

11 years for all

you should try to reduce risk
discuss with patient regarding potential risks and benefits and DOCUMENT IN NOTES
any incident should be clearly recorded, saying what was done about it and whether a referral was made

is it less likely or more likely the dentist was at fault
What are the degrees of culpability
dissatisfying outcome of treatment
