2
Q

Compare the life span of different blood corpuscles

A

RBC’s live the longest of 120 days, that is, 3 months whereas platelets and WBCs have barely a week.

Q

Describe Most abundant WBC (structure and function, percentage). It’s similar to? Stain how?

A

Neutrophils, aka PMNL (poly morpho nuclear leucocytes) since they have a multilobed nucleus.
They are phagocytic (each division has at least one phagocytic cell: PMNL from granulotcytes and Monocytes from agranulocytes: both are phagocytic)
Stain weakly with both acidic and basic dyes.

17
Q

What’s another name for stratum germinatum?

A

STRATUM MALPIGHI

These cells are columnar and multiply to push more cells into superficial layers.

18
Q

Transitional ep is found in? Important property and Working?

A

Stretchability. Upon stretching, cells of this epithelium turn flat and increase the volume of the organ. (Lacks both basement membrane and germinative layer)

Found in: renal pelvis, ureter, urinary bladder

IMPORTANT: Non ciliated pseudostratified columnar cells (SIMPLE) line the male urethra.

*note: renal pelvis- Towards the centre of the inner concave surface of the kidney is a notch called Jilin through which the ureter, blood vessels and nerves enter. Inner to the hilum is a broad funnel shaped space called the renal pelvis with projections called calyces.
