Q

what is training process?

A

•Goal for the S&C coach is:

  1. Improve performance
  2. Reduce injury risk

•Therefore, our methods should include two main themes:

  1. Methods to directly or indirectly improve performance = performance focus
  2. Methods to reduce injury risk = injury prevention focus

•Can be difficult to identify the differences but methods that meet both are efficient!

Q

training process: performance focus model:

A
  1. Identify performance goal (what does the athlete/coach want to achieve?)
  2. Conduct needs analysis (What are the demands placed on the athlete by the sport and what physical qualities are required to perform the sport?)
  3. Test identified qualities (What tests are available that identify an athlete’s capacity for each relevant physical qualities?)
  4. Train targeted qualities (Train the physical qualities using appropriate methods and techniques while adhering to training principles)

Q

training process: performance focus model: STEP 1: IDENTIFY PERFORMANCE GOAL

A

STEP 1: IDENTIFY PERFORMANCE GOAL

  • Very easy to extract information –discussion with the athlete and coach
  • Can be short-term or long-term
  • Important to identify where the athlete currently is relative to their goal –realistic?
  • Examples: “I want to make the GB team and get funding”

Q

training process: performance focus model: STEP 2: to PERFORM A NEEDS ANALYSIS

A

•Section of the process whereby we identify:

  1. Demands (performance determinants) placed on the athlete from the sport
  2. The associated physical determinants that permit athletes who play at the desired level
  • Performance determinants can be technical, mechanical or physiological in nature
  • Technical –e.g. performance indicators
  • Mechanical –e.g. forces/speed during events or matches
  • Physiological –e.g. predominant energy system usage
  • Specific physical determinants (qualities/abilities) that are required:
  • Strength? Speed? Agility? Endurance? Balance? Flexibility?

Q

how can we most easily determine the general demands of their sport?

A

Externally (behaviours/ movements / biomechanics) ———>Internally (physiology)

Q

how do we describe movement patterns?

A
  • Reilly and Thomas(1976)were the first to describe movement using video analysis
  • Current methods:
  • Global Positioning Systems(GPS)
  • Semi automated ,multiple camera(Amisco. Prozone)

•Systems used to track the gross movements of players around the pitch.

Q

what are some test the physical qualities chosen?

A

Physical Qualities:

  • Maximal strength (lower-limb): •Back squat 1-3 RM
  • Explosive strength: •Countermovement jump
  • Acceleration sprinting: •10 m sprint
  • Maximal velocity sprinting: •30-40 m sprint
  • Body composition: •Skin-fold measurements

Q

What are the parts of the re-testing?

A

performance needs analysis—>initial testing—>Training program design—> implementation of program—> Frequent assessment—> both training program design (if doesn’t work) and Coach athlete, scientist-education and information.
