Superficial causes of neck swellings
Neurofibroma, Lipoma (can move skin over it), Sebaceous cyst (moves with skin) Carbuncle
Midline swelling causes
Thyroid, Thyroglossal cyst, Dermoid cyst (jugular notch, congenital)
Causes of anterior triangle swelling
Lymphadenopathy, Branchial cyst, Salivary glands, carotid body tumour
Causes of posterior triangle swelling
Cystic hygroma (babies, armpits), Lymphadenopathy
Course of thyroiditis
Starts hyperthyroid, 4-6 weeks later hypothyroid
Boundaries of anterior triangle
Midline
Anterior border SCM
Inferior border mandible

Posterior border SCM
Superior border clavicle
Anterior border trapezius
