Neck Pain With Movement Coordination Deficits (WAD)(2) Flashcards
What are symptoms of someone with neck pain with movement coordination impairments?
Trauma
Referred shoulder, girdle, or UE pain
Concussion signs
Dizziness/nausea
What are some exam findings in someone with neck pain with movement coordination impairments?
+ cranial cervical flexion test
+ neck flexor muscle endurance test
+ pressure algometry (pain is amped up)
Neck pain with mid range and worsens with end range
Proprioceptive deficits
What is the most important treatment in neck pain with movement coordination impairments?
Education and reassurance
What is the first thing you should do when someone comes in with neck pain with movement coordination impairments?
Clear all red flags (vascular, fracture, upper cervical ligaments, myelopathy)
What are challenges that come with neck pain with movement coordination impairments?
Subjective exam won’t give you a lot
Lots of tissues involved
Post traumatic stress involved (scared to drive)
Concussion present
Central sensitivity/guarding (increased pain due to sympathetic overdrive)
How should your physical exam be with neck pain with MCI?
Very detailed (do not need to treat on first visit)
What is more important than fixing anything in neck pain with MCI?
Guiding a progressive return to function
How do you treat someone with neck pain with movement coordination impairments?
Proprioception (laser on head)
Balance
Manipulation/mobs
Breathing and sleeping (education)
What are the most effective ways to increase sleep hygiene?
Consistency

High initial pain and disability
Old age
Female
Restricted neck movement
Cold hyperalgesia
Post traumatic stress
What is the hard conversation that comes with whiplash injuries?
It is going to be a long road to recovery
How is the cranio cervical flexion test performed?
Holding neck flexion position against different pressures
