Neck (need to finish) Flashcards
C2 (cervical nerve) and it’s branches
located at caudoventral border of the wing of the atlas; emerges between the mastoid part of the cleidocephalicus and omotransversarius; 2 branches
great auricular and transverse cervical nerve
Great auricular nerve
extends toward the ear; branches and supplies the skin of the neck, the ear, and the back of the head (sensory branches)
Transverse cervical nerve
branches to the skin of the cranioventral part of the neck
External jugular vein
formed by the linuofacial and maxillary veins, empties down into the brachiocephalic vein
Linguofacial vein
a
Maxillary vein
a
Mandibular salivary gland
ovoid body that lies in the fork formed by the linguofacial and maxillary vein emptying into the external jugular vein
Mandibular lymph nodes
lie on both sides of the linguofacial vein, ventral to the mandibular salivary gland
Accessory nerve (Cranial Nerve XI)
innervates BOTS; large nerve found deep to the cranial part of the sternocephalicus and the cervical part of cleidocephalicus; as it emerges from the neck, it crosses the second cervical spinal nerve, runs along the dorsal border of the omotransversarius, and terminates in the thoracic part of the trapezius; supplies in part the mastoid and cervical portions of the cleidocephalicus, omotransversarius, and sternocephalicus
Vagosympathetic trunk
runs with the common carotid artery in the carotid sheath; lies dorsal to the sternothyroideus
Medial retropharyngeal lymph node
behind pharynx (throat); lies opposite to the larynx, ventrolateral to the carotid sheath
