What is the function of the pharynx?
Assists with speaking, swallowing and middle ear functions
What is the function of the Stylopharyngeus muscle?
To elevate and widen the pharynx
What is the function of the Pharyngeal constrictor muscles? ( 3 pairs)
Raise the larynx, Pharynx and help to pass food down the oesophagus during swallowing
What is the function of the soft palate?
Involves in speaking and swallowing
What is the function of Palatoglossus?
Elevates the base of the tongue and separate oral cavity from pharynx
What is the function of Palatopharynqeus?
Closes the nasopharynx during swallowing
What is the function of the Masseter?
Helps in mastication swallowing and speech, elevates the mandible by bilateral contraction
What is the function of the Temporalis muscle?
Elevates and retracts the mandible muscle, crushes food between molars
What is the function of the lateral pterygoid muscle?
lateral deviation of the mandible, depresses the mandible
What is the function of the Medial pterygoid muscle?
Elevates the mandible during jaw closing
What is the function of Skeletal muscles?
Responsible for voluntary and reflex movements, maintains posture, generates body heat, and moves body parts or entire body
What is the function of the Sternocleidomastoid muscle?
Tilts head to the side of the muscle, and rotation of the head
What is the function of the Trapezius muscle?
Elevates the scapula and clavicle, assists in palpating cervical lymph nodes, and downward rotation of the scapula
What is the function of the post and anterior bellies?
Either elevates the hyoid bone or depresses the mandible
What is the function of the Mylohyoid muscle?
Depresses mandible, elevates hyoid bone and tongue for swallowing.
