Neck Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 2 layers of the SKIN and 2 layers of the FASCIA.
A
Skin: 1.epidermis (epithelium)
- non-vascular
2. dermis (dense connective tissue) - vascular/lymphatics/innervated
Fascia:
- superficial fascia
- distributes vessels & nerves/allows skin mobility/insulation - deep fascia
- separates superficial from deep structures/strong & protective
2
Q
- What runs between and connects the superior mediastinum to the base of the skull?
- What does the the deep fascia help to prevent?
A
- The tubes in the deep fascia.
- The spread of infection from one compartment to another.
3
Q
What is superficial Neck Fascia?
What does it contain?
A
Adipose connective tissue
contains:
- Sensory nerves
- Platysma muscles
- Blood vessels - superficial veins
- (Lymphatic vessels and superficial lymph nodes)
4
Q
-What are the muscles of facial expresion supplied by?
-What is the platysma muscle supplied by.
A
- Facial nerve
- platysma is supplied by the cervical branch of CN VII
5
Q
Identify the superficial veins of the neck.
A
6
Q
What is deep cervical fascia and its 3 layers?
A
•It is a fibrous connective tissue
Its three distinct layers (from superficial to deep):
–Investing layer
–Pretracheal layer
–Prevertebral layer
